"Have To Be Fair": Gautam Gambhir's Blunt Take On Future Of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma

Not someone to mince his words, India head coach Gautam Gambhir seemed to have arrived at the press conference in an aggressive mood after the team's defeat in Sydney led to Australia clinching the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After the end of the match, head coach Gautam Gambhir arrived at the press conference at Sydney Cricket Ground and answered some burning questions from reporters. One of those questions was about the future of seniors in the team, including skipper Rohit Sharma and talismanic batter Virat Kohli.

India's tour of Australia has already seen a retirement take place in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin while talks around Rohit Sharma's exit from the longest format of the game have also intensified after his absence from the final match in Sydney. However, as India suffered a 6-wicket defeat in Sydney, with the result eliminating them from the World Test Championship final race as well, a picture featuring India's head coach Gautam Gambhir, and Virat Kohli triggered a storm on social media.

"Earned This Captaincy, Kisi Ne Plate Pe Saja Ke Nahi Di": Rohit Sharma's Fiery Rant

Regular India captain Rohit Sharma, who stood himself down from the ongoing Sydney Test due to his poor form, said the new boys in the team have to work hard and earn the chance of taking up the leadership role in the future. Rohit stood himself down from playing the Sydney Test after making just 3, 6, 10, 3 and 9 in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah has been captaining India in Sydney, but in worrying signs for the visitors, he left the field during second session of day two's play and was seen going to hospital for scans with members of the support staff.

"Not An Ordinary Captain": Gautam Gambhir, Team India Blasted For Leaving Rohit Sharma Out

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has strongly stated that India Test captain Rohit Sharma should not have been left out of the playing XI of the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney. Rohit, amidst poor form that saw him scored 31 runs in five innings, did not feature in the side for the crucial fifth Test. However, Kaif has stated that Rohit is not any "ordinary" captain, and his contribution to Indian cricket alone should've seen him keep his spot in the XI, whether win, lose or draw.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir is currently under the scanner as he has failed to live up to the expectations since taking up the role from Rahul Dravid. Under him, India beat Bangladesh 2-0 in a Test series before being clean swept by New Zealand 3-0 in the format at home. The trouble has increased for Gambhir as Rohit Sharma and co. are now 1-2 down in the ongoing five-match Test series vs Australia. Such is the situation that India need to win their fifth and final game Down Under to stay in race for World Test Championship Final.

The off-side demons in Test cricket have shown no intent of their will to stop haunting Virat Kohli. For probably the 6th time this series, Kohli gave in to his instincts of playing the outside-off delivery to pace bowlers, as he fell to an in-form Scott Boland on Day 1 of the 5th Test of the series against Australia in Sydney. Following his dismissal in the first innings of the Sydney Test, Kohli incurred another low score in the series, with his scores in the series reading 5, 100*, 7, 11, 3, 36, 5, and now 17.
