SAVONA: Lamont Marcel Jacobs made a winning return to the 100m at a meeting in Savona on Wednesday (May 18), cruising to victory in his first race over the distance since claiming double gold at the Tokyo Olympics.
Gabby Thomas equalled a Doha Diamond League record after storming to victory in the women’s 200m. Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson came second with a season-best time of 22:07, while Britain's Dina Asher-Smith came third with a personal best of 22:37. Ad/> There was a huge shock in the women’s 400m, as double Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas could only finish third.
Dina Asher-Smith started her 2022 outdoor season by finishing third in the 200m in the opening Wanda Diamond League meet of the season in Doha. On the same track that she claimed world gold on three years ago, Asher-Smith produced a solid time of 22.37s but could not match winner Gabby Thomas. Ad/> American Thomas, an Olympic bronze medallist last summer, set a new meeting record of 21.98s to claim victory with Shericka Jackson second in 22.07s.
American duo Gabby Thomas and Noah Lyles took impressive 200 metres victories and two men posted monster, wind-assisted 90 metre javelin throws as the Diamond League season got underway on a lively night in front of a noisy crowd in Doha on Friday.
Canada's Andre De Grasse found himself a step behind in his season-opening race on Friday.
