Australia pacer Mitchell Starc was at his absolute best during India's first innings in the ongoing second Test in Adelaide. Starc registered his career-best figures of 6/48 as Australia bowled India out for 180 after the visitors had opted to bat. According to former Australia batter Mark Waugh, Starc bowled the "ball of the century" when he dismissed Ravichandran Ashwin. The India veteran played a handy cameo before Starc trapped him plumb in front of the stumps with a sharp in-swinging delivery in the 39th over.
After India defeat Australia comprehensively in the first match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Pert, Pacer Josh Hazlewood made an interesting comment. When asked what the hosts could do to make a comeback in the five-match series, Hazlewood said: "You probably have to ask one of the batters that question... I'm probably looking mostly towards the next Test." The comment was picked up by several former cricketers, who wondered if there was a divide in the Australia dressing room.
Australian legend Don Bradman's 'Baggy Green' Test cap from the 1947-48 series against India was sold for an astounding $390,000, (Rs 2.14 crore) which rose to $479,700 (Rs 2.63 crore) after auction fees. The cap, believed to be the only known "Baggy Green" worn by Bradman during the series, holds immense historical value. Bradman's performances in the 1947-48 series were nothing short of extraordinary. In what was his final Test series on home soil, the Australian captain amassed 715 runs in just six innings at an astronomical average of 178.75, which included three centuries and a double-century.
Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has given a huge statement regarding the India-Australia cricket rivalry. Albanese said that the the contest between the two sides is greater than the Ashes. Notably, Ashes is the Test series played between Australia and England's men's cricket teams. It is one of the biggest cricket contests in the world. When asked if the India-Australia cricket rivalry is bigger than the Ashes, Albanese came up with an affirmative reply. Speaking further on the topic, the PM termed it a "real rivalry".
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has defended star India batter Virat Kohli after his flop show with the bat in the 1st innings of the Perth Test against Australia. Kohli managed just five runs before fending off a climbing Josh Hazlewood delivery to Usman Khawaja at slip. His 12-ball stay in the middle extended his lean patch with the bat, having managed just 93 runs in the recent home series loss to New Zealand. The former India captain hasn't scored a century since the West Indies tour last year.
Australia's left-handed opener Usman Khawaja admits Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah's unusual bowling action initially feels awkward, but with constant exposure to facing him, it becomes easier to handle. "I mean, when you first face him, it's just his action. It's a different, bizarre kind of action as his release point is very different than other bowlers. It's just a bit further up. So a lot of guys release the ball from near the popping crease. (Against Bumrah) it feels like he gets a bit further out just with his front braced leg and pushes the ball out," said Khawaja to Fox Sports on Thursday.
Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia, former leg-spinner Kerry O'Keeffe believes that the Baggy Greens will go really hard on opposition skipper Rohit Sharma in the upcoming all-important Test series. Over the years, India has regained an upper hand over Australia in the series. India has won its previous four series against Australia in a row, including two wins in Australia in the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons. This has made India a much more successful side in the series, with India winning the BGT 10 times and Australia winning it five times, with their last series win coming in during the 2014-15 season. Their last series win in India was in 2004-05.
