GRENCHEN, Switzerland -Italy's Filippo Ganna claimed the Hour record by covering 56.792 kilometres at the Grenchen, Switzerland, velodrome on Saturday.
Filippo Ganna smashed the Hour Record after he completed a distance of 56.792 km around the Tissot Velodrome in Grenchen, Switzerland. Ganna beat the previous mark of 55.548 km set by Great Britain’s Daniel Bigham – a performance engineer at Ineos Grenadiers – back on August 19.
Race favourite Pauline Ferrand-Prevot held her nerve to clinch the inaugural UCI Gravel World Championships in Veneto on Saturday. After a gruelling 140km, the Frenchwoman pipped Sina Frei, of Switzerland, to the post in a time of 4:09:07 following a dramatic sprint finish. Ad The pair had dropped Italy's Chiara Teocchi and Germany's Jade Treffeisen inside the final 500 metres.
Filippo Ganna will take on the UCI Hour Record at the Tissot Velodrome in Switzerland in the hope of surpassing the mark set by Britain’s Dan Bigham. Ganna will need to ride more than 55.548km to break the record, which is held by his Ineos Grenadiers team-mate Bigham, who is his performance engineer for his attempt.
Tobias Foss (Norway) stunned the field – and himself – to win the Road World Championships men’s time trial. The 25-year-old had never won a race outside his own national championships, but his mark of 40:02 ensured the Norwegian the rainbow jersey. Ad Stefan Kung (Switzerland) took second, three seconds shy of Foss's mark, with Remco Evenepoel in third, nine seconds back.
