PARIS — Coco Gauff sat plain-faced in her French Open changeover chair after moving one set away from her first Grand Slam final at 18 — just 18! — and calmly snacked on some cut-up pieces of pineapple and other fruit, seemingly without a care in the world.
Teenage American tennis phenom Coco Grauff advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open Sunday with a straight-sets win over No. 31 seed Elise Mertens of Belgium 6-4, 6-0 a (you can catch every serve and sliding volley on the clay on Peacock).
Coco Gauff has said that she will continue to make mistakes, but is happy to be a role model for others. The American has huge expectation on her shoulders, having broken through three years ago at the age of 15. Coco Gauff recorded a 6-4 6-0 victory over Elise Mertens to claim a place in the quarter-finals of the French Open for the second consecutive year. After progressing through the second and third round without dropping a set, the 18th seed once again looked in fine fettle, finishing off the game with a bagel to cruise into the last eight.
