EUGENE, Ore. — Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce sped her way back to the top of the sprint game Sunday, winning her fifth world title at 100 meters by leading a Jamaican sweep and knocking off Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won her record fifth world 100m title in Eugene, Oregon, on Sunday, leading an unprecedented Jamaican cleansweep of the podium. Fraser-Pryce had an electric start and led from gun to tape at Hayward Field, winning in a championship record of 10.67 seconds. Shericka Jackson took silver in a personal best of 10.73sec, with four-time Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah claiming bronze (10.81).
Dina Asher-Smith ran the second fastest 100m in her career as she made an electric return to her best in Eugene. The Briton has had a mixed season so far but her time of 10.84 sec, just 0.01 off her national record, ensured she qualified fastest for Sunday evening’s semi-finals.
