Pakistan face a must-win situation, having secured victory in only two of their six matches in the World Cup so far. Their chances of making the knockouts hinge on the results of their upcoming matches, commencing with Tuesday's face-off against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. On the other hand, Bangladesh, who are virtually out of the race for a spot in the semi-finals, head into the game on the back of their defeat against the Netherlands.

Mohammed Habib, the playmaker par excellence of the 1970s who scored against Pele's New York Cosmos in Mohun Bagan colours and made the football icon take note of his game, died on Tuesday. The former India player was 74. Habib, who was suffering from dementia and Parkinson's syndrome for the past couple of years, breathed his last in Hyderabad, his birthplace. Habib was survived by his wife and three daughters. A bronze medallist in the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok under the captaincy of fellow Hyderabadi Syed Nayeemuddin and manager PK Banerjee, Habib has represented the big three of Kolkata Maidan -- Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting in his heydays, dominating the Mecca of Indian football for a prolonged period in the late 1960s through to the 70s.
The preparations for the ODI World Cup 2023 are going thick and heavy, with there being roughly two months' time before the mega event begins. Eden Gardens, one of the most iconic cricket venues in the world, witnessed a hurdle in its preparations for the tournament after a fire broke out on Thursday. The Cricket Association of Bengal president Snehashish Ganguly confirmed that such an incident did take place, although he was happy that no major damage was done and the situation came under control before things could go out of hand.
Amid renovation work at the Eden Gardens for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup, massive fire broke in one of the dressing rooms of the iconic stadium in Kolkata, local media reported. Eden Gardens will be hosting several important games including the India-South Africa game on November 5. It will also be hosting the second semi-final on November 16. The fire incident at around 11:50 pm, according to a report in Sangabad Pratidin.

The Cricket Association of Bengal on Saturday requested ICC recce team about concerns raised by local security agencies with regards to World Cup match between Pakistan and England on November 12 coinciding with Kali Puja. If BCCI and ICC have to accommodate another date change, then Pakistn will have a third change in schedule. This is after rescheduling of India vs Pakistan game (October 14 instead of 15 in Ahmedabad) and Sri Lanka vs Pakistan game (now on October 10 in Hyderabad instead of October 12).
