Lord's will provide a fitting backdrop to this week's Ashes drama as the spiritual 'Home of Cricket' hosts the second Test between England and Australia.
As the cricketing world prepares for the Ashes series between England and Australia, which will take place from June 16 onwards, it is time to revisit one of the most important and historic chapters of cricket's oldest rivalry. Out of 72 Ashes series played so far, Australia have been on the winning side largely with 34 wins. England has won 32 titles, rest ended in a draw. But out of these 34 title wins, there was something really special about the Ashes win in 1948 for the Aussies. The Australian side, led by legendary batter Don Bradman, who was on his final tour to England, went undefeated throughout the whole tour.
Shardul Thakur equalled Australia legends Don Bradman and Alan Border with his third half-century at the Oval during Day 3 of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and Australia on Friday. The all-rounder scored 51 off 109 deliveries and in the process, he became the third visiting batter ever to score three Test half-centuries at the venue. Only Bradman and Border have achieved the feat before Thakur and the feat has already inspired a number of memes on social media. Shardul is something called the "Lord" by fans and the tweets kept coming in after his half-century.
English batter Ben Duckett surpassed Sir Don Bradman's record of scoring the fastest 150 runs at Lords on Friday against Ireland. Even though Duckett (182) fell 18 runs short of scoring a double hundred at the end of the day, still his knock was enough to surpass Bradman's long-standing record. While shattering the 93-year-old record, the left-handed batter also registered another milestone in his name as he became the first batter since 1924 to score 100 runs before lunch in a Lord's Test. Duckett took 150 balls to complete 150 runs, 16 balls less that the legendary Sir Donald Bradman, who took 166 balls to reach the milestone against England in 1930.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam is in the form of his life. In the recently concluded fourth ODI against New Zealand, Babar became the fastest batter to score 5,000 ODI runs, surpassing South Africa great Hashim Amla in the elite list. Former Pakistan Cricket Board (CPB) chairman Ramiz Raja has now made a startling claim regarding Babar. As Babar continues to break records, Raja has compared him to Australia great Sir Donald Bradman, adding that the Pakistan captain is best player in the world cricket currently.
SYDNEY : A set of gates at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) have been named in honour of Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara to mark the Indian's 50th birthday and the 30th anniversary of the West Indies batsman's innings of 277 at the ground.
Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara joined Donald Bradman on Monday in having a set of gates named in their honour at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with all visiting players passing through them to access the field of play. The gates were unveiled to mark Indian great Tendulkar's 50th birthday and 30 years since West Indies legend Lara's 277 at the stadium -- the first of his 34 Test centuries.
