Congress MP Vijay Vasanth took to his official social media handle and urged the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya to felicitate former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. India's celebrated off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin revealed his decision to retire from international cricket moments after the Brisbane Test ended in a draw on Wednesday. "I have written to the Hon'ble Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, requesting that R. Ashwin be conferred with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. His exceptional contributions to Indian cricket and remarkable achievements on the field make him truly deserving of this honour," Vijay Vasanth wrote in a post on X.

SOGF Announces Major Dhyan Chand Scholarship

Major Dhyan Chand Scholarship Award worth Rs 28.80 lakh will be offered to 48 zonal winners of the SOG Grandmasters Series, the organisers of the mind sports events announced after the South Zone finals on Thursday. The competition, organised by Skillhub Online Games Federation, was held in three categories -- eChess, Blind Chess and Rummy and a total of 132 players competed for the top spots.

National Sports Awards Applications Invited Till November 14: Sports Ministry

The applications for the National Sports Awards will be invited till November 14, said the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The list of awards bestowed upon the sportspersons include: Arjuna Award, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award (Lifetime) and the Dronacharya Award. The other awards include the Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy, the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar and the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award. Last year, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the biggest sports honour in the country, was awarded to star pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

Delhi SG Pipers, the SG Sports, Media and Entertainment backed franchise of the upcoming Hockey India League, congratulated its Director of Hockey and Team Mentor PR Sreejesh on winning the prestigious FIH Goalkeeper of the Year award at the FIH (Hockey) Stars Awards. Double Olympic medallist Sreejesh prevailed over Netherlands' Pirmin Blaak, Luis Calzado of Spain, Jean-Paul Danneberg of Germany and Argentina's Tomas Santiago to bag the top honour. The 36-year-old Sreejesh retired from the game after winning a second consecutive Olympic bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics earlier this year following a stellar 18-year-old career during which he made 366 appearances for India.
