Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants qualified for the Indian Premier League (IPL) play-offs on Saturday after beating Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) survived Rinku Singh's onslaught to edge out Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by one run, and booked their place in the IPL 2023 playoffs. The win took LSG to 17 points from 14 league matches, while KKR's hopes of reaching the playoffs were dashed with this defeat. LSG remain in the third spot, three points ahead of fourth-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, their win was not enough to take them above CSK, who registered a big win over Delhi Capitals earlier on the day to secure their playoff spot.
Chennai Super Kings crushed Delhi Capitals by 77 runs to clinch a place in the Indian Premier League play-offs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. CSK ended their 14-match league campaign with 17 points and that is good enough to seal a last-four berth. Batting first, opener Devon Conway's 87 off only 51 balls and Ruturaj Gaikwad's smashing 79 off 50 deliveries ensured a healthy 223 for 3 CSK. Conway's innings comprised 11 fours and three sixes while Gaikwad hit seven sixes apart from three boundaries as they added 141 for the opening stand. In reply, DC managed only 146 for 9 with skipper David Warner's 86 off 58 balls being the only saving grace.
Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Chahar brought their 'A' game to the fore as Chennai Super Kings cantered to a 77-run crushing victory over Delhi Capitals to seal an IPL play-off berth in Delhi on Saturday. Playing a must-win game, Conway (87 off 52) and Gaikwad (79 off 50) smashed brilliant half-centuries to help Chennai Super Kings post a challenging 223/3 after captain MS Dhoni opted to bat. Skipper David Warner, DC's best batter this season, waged a lone battle, scoring 86 off 58 deliveries. But in the end the home team could manage only 146/9 in 20 overs after Chahar dealt a killer blow removing a couple of top-order batters within Powerplay overs.
MS Dhoni meant business in Chennai Super Kings' crucial IPL 2023 game against Delhi Capitals. Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first against Delhi Capitals in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. This match is crucial for CSK's playoff chances, which is sitting at the second spot with seven wins, five losses and one no result from 13 matches. They have a total of 15 points and lost their last match to Kolkata Knight Riders. DC is out of the competition, have five wins, eight losses from 13 games, with a total of 10 points. They won their previous match against Punjab Kings and could spoil CSK's party.
Delhi Capitals will be squaring off against Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2023 match on Saturday, at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi. DC will be coming to this clash after registering a 15-run victory over Punjab Kings. On the other hand, CSK faced a six-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous match. Currently, CSK are at the second spot on the points table with 15 points and just require a win to qualify into the playoffs. A win would, however, confirm a play-off spot but whether they finish in second place or third would depend on the Lucknow Super Giants' result against Kolkata Knight Riders later in the day.
Defending champions Gujarat Titans, having qualified for the playoffs already, continue to rule the charts at the top with 9 wins in 13 matches (18 points). They are followed by Chennai Super Kings (15 points) and Lucknow Super Giants (15 points). Rajasthan Royals defeated Punjab Kings by 6 wickets but couldn't make significant gains in the points table. They climbed up to the 5th spot in the table, one place behind Royal Challengers Bangalore who are yet to play their last league game of the campaign.
A determined Chennai Super Kings unit wouldn't mind being masters of its own fate in its bid to steamroll the already ousted Delhi Capitals, who are looking to end a forgettable IPL campaign on a high in a final league game in New Delhi on Saturday. At the moment, CSK are on second on the points table with 15 points from 13 games. But a loss against DC along with a string of unfavourable results could see the four-time champions miss out on the last leg of IPL action. A win would, however, confirm a play-off spot but whether they finish in second place or third would depend on the Lucknow Super Giants' result against Kolkata Knight Riders later in the day.
