Kagiso Rabada appears ready to continue spearheading the Proteas' attack when the first Test against England commences on Wednesday at Lord's.
South Africa captain Dean Elgar says he does not fear "Bazball" as the Proteas seek to inflict England's first Test defeat of their swashbuckling new era under the leadership of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.
England and South Africa will be squaring off against each other in the first Test of the three-match series on Wednesday. The first Test match will be played at Lord's Cricket Ground, London, while the other two will be played at Old Trafford, Manchester and Kennington Oval respectively. Earlier in July, South Africa claimed the three-match T20I series 2-1 while the ODI series ended on level terms at 1-1 after the third ODI was washed out due to rain. It will be interesting to how Ben Stokes-led England approaches the Test series, after making the 'Bazball' word the talk of the town.
Since Brendon McCullum took charge as head coach, and Ben Stokes replaced Joe Root as Test captain, England have thrived under the attacking 'Bazball' philosophy in the longest format. After being thrashed by Australia in the Ashes, England clean swept New Zealand 3-0 on home turf, before also beating India in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The Stokes-led side now face South Africa for a three-match Test series. Ahead of the Test series, South Africa captain Dean Elgar was of the opinion that committing to the 'Bazball' philosophy could leave England looking foolish in the long run.
Sam Billings took a stunning catch on Tuesday during England A's ongoing practice match against South Africa at St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury. On the first day of the four-day contest, England pacer Craig Overton bowled a back-of-a-length delivery to South Africa skipper Dean Elgar and the latter edged it while trying to play his shot on the front foot. The ball flew between wicketkeeper Billings and the first slip, and was dying down before the former put a quick dive to his left and grabbed it before it touched the ground.
Dean Elgar has indirectly praised the national selectors for their willingness to recall ex-Kolpak stalwarts for the Proteas Test team.
Whether Mark Boucher will remain the Proteas' head coach is a question that will only be answered in the coming months, but there can be little doubt that its two captains, Temba Bavuma and Dean Elgar, are the on-field leaders to continue driving the steady revival.
Proteas skipper Dean Elgar was nothing but proud of his side's performance following their crushing second Test win against Bangladesh at St George's Park.
