Broad got the chance to bowl at the former Australia captain at the end of the opening day after England declared at 393/8, but Warner survived a nervy 20-minute session against his nemesis. However, Broad struck with the first ball of his fourth over of the morning as Warner inside-edged the delivery back onto his stumps.
Former England skipper Eoin Morgan has praised Australian batter Alex Carey who scored a crucial 52 (80)* in the first innings on the second day for the Ashes on Saturday. Usman Khawaja (126*) and Alex Carey's (52*) partnership led the charge with the bat as Australia managed to bounce back in the final session of Day 2 of the first Test match of the Ashes 2023 series on Saturday. Australia trailed by 82 runs, scoring 311/5. "I think it has been Australia's day. I would rather be sat in Australia's changing room right now and the difference for me has been Carey. You always expect an Australian to grind out some runs on this wicket. It's needless to mention that something special was needed to bring England back in the game and a vintage Andeson came to the side's rescue.
Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting believes that struggling opener David Warner has shown hints of his best form during the ICC World Test Championship final against India and in the first innings of the Ashes Test against England and "he will make some runs", reported ICC on Sunday. The pressure is building on Warner and his place in the Test team is under scrutiny due to his recent form. He fell to Stuart Broad for just nine runs at Edgbaston, making it his 15th dismissal against the veteran English pacer.
