INDORE, India: India batsmen Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer scored centuries to lay the platform for a 99-run win over Australia in their rain-hit second one-day international (ODI) in Indore on Sunday (Sep 24) that sealed a 2-0 series victory ahead of the World Cup.
Shubman Gill showed his insatiable hunger for runs with fifth hundred of the year while Shreyas Iyer hit a timely ton under pressure to set up a series sealing 99-run win for India in the second ODI against Australia on Sunday. Gill (104 off 97 balls) and Iyer (105 off 90 balls) shared a stroke-filled 200-run stand off 164 balls before Suryakumar Yadav (72 not out off 37 balls) unleashed carnage to fire India to 399 for five, the hosts' highest total against Australia in ODIs. Skipper KL Rahul chipped in with 52 off 38 balls.
David Warner is well-known for his switch hits against spinners but against Ravichandran Ashwin during the second ODI between India and Australia on Sunday, he decided to start batting right-handed. He started his innings as a left-hander but during the 13th over of the Australia innings, he decided to take a right-hander's stance. He played the first delivery lightly for a single but on the next occasion, he unleased a brilliant sweep shot that raced to the fine-leg boundary. KL Rahul effected a lucky stumping during India's first ODI match against Australia at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali to get the better of Marnus Labuschagne. The right-handed batter attempted a reverse sweep during the game on Friday but failed to execute it properly. The ball hit wicketkeeper Rahul's pad and then ricocheted onto the stumps, catching Labuschagne short of his crease. It was also the first wicket in ODI cricket for Ravichandran Ashwin since January 19, 2022.
