Australia were seen by many as one of the favourites when the 2023 World Cup began but after just two matches, the five-time champions have witnessed their campaign fall apart.
Their house in complete disarray after consecutive defeats, Australia will look to wake up from their slumber and return to winning ways against an equally stuttering Sri Lanka in the World Cup in Lucknow on Monday. Both teams are in search of their maiden win in the tournament. While Australia suffered humiliating losses against India and South Africa, Sri Lanka faltered against the Proteas and Pakistan. Australia have looked like a pale shadow of their dominant selves in this tournament.
Quinton de Kock hit his second successive century at the Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday as South Africa made 311-7 in their group game against sloppy five-time champions Australia who dropped five catches. The 30-year-old De Kock reached his 19th ODI hundred off 90 balls with eight fours and five sixes having also made a century in South Africa's opening win over Sri Lanka. De Kock, who will retire from international cricket at the end of the tournament, was batting in familiar surroundings at the Ekana Stadium where he plays in the IPL for the Lucknow Super Giants.
South Africa reaffirmed their status as serious contenders as their pacers fired in tandem after Quinton de Kock's blazing century, paving the way for a dominant 134-run win over Australia in the World Cup in Lucknow on Thursday. If de Kock showed his class with a masterful 109 off 106 balls to take the Proteas to 311/7, the fast bowlers were at their ruthless best, bundling Australia for 177 in 40.5 overs for their second consecutive win. The South Africans entered this game after a comprehensive victory in their opener against Sri Lanka.
Quinton De Kock's second successive century at the World Cup helped South Africa to a thumping 134-run victory over Australia in Lucknow.
South Africa brutally thrashed Australia by 134 runs in their second ODI World Cup 2023 match on Thursday in Lucknow. This was South Africa's second victory in the ongoing tournament and with that, they have taken the top spot on the points table. Australia, on the other hand, have faced their second consecutive defeat and have slipped down to the the ninth position. However, the Proteas' victory turned out to be a bad news for Team India as the Rohit Sharma-led side has now slipped to the third position from the second spot.
Australia vs South Africa Live Updates: Josh Hazlewood has provided Australia with another breakthrough as he dismissed Heinrich Klaasen for 29. Currently, David Miller and Marco Jansen are standing unbeaten at the crease for five-down South Africa. On the other hand, Australia are aiming to get more wickets at the earliest.
