:Mitch Owen blasted the Big Bash League's equal-fastest hundred on Monday to deliver Hobart Hurricanes their first T20 title, securing a seven-wicket victory against Sydney Thunder in the 14th tournament final at Bellerive Oval.
Indian cricket team batter Tilak Varma scripted history with his match-winning knock during the second T20I encounter against England in Chennai on Saturday. Tilak slammed a brilliant 72 off just 55 deliveries with the help of four fours and five sixes to guide his team to victory. Thanks to the knock, Tilak became the first player in the world (among full member nations) to score 300+ runs in T20Is without getting dismissed. In the past four innings for India, Tilak scored 107 (from 56 balls) vs. South Africa, 120 from 47 balls against South Africa, 19, and 72 not out vs. England. Earlier, the record belonged to New Zealand's Mark Chapman who scored 271 runs before getting dismissed in T20I cricket.
Former opener David Warner has backed Travis Head to be Australia's new Test captain if Steve Smith isn't fit for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka due to an elbow injury suffered in the Big Bash League (BBL). Smith was named as Australia's Test captain for the Sri Lanka tour after Pat Cummins was unavailable due to left ankle soreness and the birth of his second child. But Cricket Australia (CA) said on Sunday that Smith sustained an injury to his right elbow whilst throwing in the field for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League on Friday.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will pay an additional sum of USD 100,000 to six high-profile foreign players in PSL franchisees for making themselves available for the League. The PCB agreed to shell out the money from a special fund which has now grown to USD one million. During the PSL draft, the PCB had set a maximum base price salary of USD 200,000 to franchises for each overseas player. "David Warner for example came onboard for a fee of USD 300,000 and 100,000 of this will be paid to him by the PCB from the special fund," an official with the PSL, said.
Former Australia cricket team skipper David Warner found himself involved in a bizarre incident during a Big Bash League (BBL) encounter on Friday. During the match between Sydney Thunder and Hobert Hurricanes, Warner broke his bat while playing a shot and ended up hitting himself on the back of the head in a scene that left everyone in splits. Facing a delivery from the fast bowler Riley Meredith, Warner went for a big shot through mid-wicket but the bat broke just after making contact. The broken piece flew back and hit Warner on the back of his head as the veteran Australia batter was left confused.
Australian big-hitter Travis Head could open in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka where "quick learner" Sam Konstas is also likely to get more opportunities to showcase his audacious skills, chairman of selectors George Bailey has said. Head, who wreaked havoc with the bat during the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar series against India in the middle order, has been tested in the opener's role in the sub-continent. He had come in for an injured David Warner during the 2023 tour of India and scored 223 runs at 55.75 in five innings at the top of the order.
Australia's stylish opening batter Sam Konstas made plenty of fans and a few foes as well with his animatic batting in the final two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In Sydney, Konstas even clashed with India's Jasprit Bumrah shortly before stumps on Day 1, prompting a huge chatter around his act on social media. Konstas unnecessarily intervened in a matter solely between Usman Khawaja and the India pacer. However, Konstas' intervention fired up Bumrah, who dismissed Khawaja on the next delivery. The rookie Australian opener has now opened up on the incident.
