The wait is finally over as the Australia cricket team on Sunday arrived in Islamabad ahead of their first tour of Pakistan in 24 years. To mark this historic occasion, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to social media and welcomed the visiting team, led by Test captain Pat Cummins. Australia last toured Pakistan in 1998, and won the three-match Test series 1-0. "Welcome @patcummins30 Great to have you and the Australian side here," PCB captioned a photo of Cummins on Twitter.
Australia flew into Pakistan Sunday for their first cricket tour in nearly a quarter of a century -- and into a high-security bubble that will envelop them throughout their six-week stay. Senior batsman Steve Smith posted a picture on Twitter of the 35-strong Australia tour party inside their charter flight's cabin after it touched down in the Pakistan capital, Islamabad. Local officials confirmed their arrival. Pakistan have struggled to attract visiting sides since a fatal terror attack on the visiting Sri Lanka team's bus in 2009. Australia pulled out of a tour five years earlier after a suicide blast at a Lahore church.
Australia Test skipper Pat Cummins has said that the "reality" of having a really strong squad is that a couple of guys will always miss out on Test matches. Cummins's remark comes as Australia gets ready to lock horns with Pakistan in a three-match Test series, beginning March 4. "In terms of the fast bowlers, Scotty Boland has just had a fantastic summer, Josh Hazlewood and Starc are superstars, so already one of those is going to miss, you would expect," ESPNcricinfo quoted Cummins as saying.
Australia batter David Warner on Friday wrote an emotional post for his wife Candice, and his daughters Ivy, Indi and Isla ahead of the team's departure for the upcoming tour of Pakistan. Taking to Instagram, David Warner shared a photo collage with his wife and daughters, saying that it is "always hard to say goodbye" to his family. "Always hard to say goodbye to my girls! We've had lots of fun over the last few months, but now it's time to get back into it for a few weeks before we reunite once again. I will miss you all soo much @candywarner1," Warner captioned the post.
Australia's interim coach Andrew McDonald on Wednesday advocated the importance of the IPL, saying the upcoming edition of the lucrative league will be a nice build up for his team as it defends its T20 World Cup title on home soil later this year. "Oh, no doubt.
