The left-handed batter went past 1,000 runs against Punjab Kings and is only the second player in IPL history to do so against a single team. Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed and Lalit Yadav took two wickets each as DC bowled out PBKS for a below-par total of 115. Chasing a target of 116, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave them a flying start before the latter was dismissed after a quickfire 41-run knock. However, Warner hit an unbeaten 60 as DC chased down the target with 9 wickets and nearly 10 overs to spare.
A sixth Covid positive case in the Delhi Capitals camp on the morning of the game created a lot of confusion and nervousness but the team made a conscious effort to shut out the outside noise and focus on the match, said skipper Rishabh Pant after the nine wicket win over Punjab Kings. The cloud over the IPL game was lifted an hour before toss time after the BCCI confirmed that the match will go on despite a sixth COVID positive case being reported in the Delhi camp on game day.
