"Calling The Shots": Former India Cricketer Impressed By Rishabh Pant's Captaincy

The Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals sealed a decisive eight-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday to keep their playoff hopes alive in IPL 2022. So far, DC have won six games from 12 outings, and sit fifth in the points table. Following the conclusion of the match, former India all-rounder Ajay Jadeja felt that Pant has done a fine job while leading the team. Jadeja also said that DC head coach Ricky Ponting worked closely with Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, but backed the young wicketkeeper-batter to lead the side.

Watch: Kumar Sangakkara's Calm Speech To Rajasthan Royals After Loss vs Delhi

Just a day after Gautam Gambhir's fiery dressing speech to Lucknow Super Giants caught the attention of cricket fans, Rajasthan Royals director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara's speech is also garnering a lot of attention. Sanga's speech though was a little different. While Gambhir spoke about the need to have "game sense" and to "not give up", Sangakkara focussed on the quality that was there in the Royals camp and asked his team to chin up after a big defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals which kept their playoff hopes in the balance.

IPL 2022: After Ravichandran Ashwin Hits Maiden T20 Fifty, Wasim Jaffer's Genius Meme

Since his retirement from cricket, Wasim Jaffer has astonished his followers with his ability to turn any situation into a meme, or at least find the perfect meme for any situation. On Wednesday, Ravichandran Ashwin - often used up the order this season by Rajasthan Royals - scored his maiden T20 half-century in the IPL 2022 match against Delhi Capitals. Ashwin hit four boundaries and two sixes in his 38-ball 50 as his half-century helped the Royals reach a total of 160/6 in their 20 overs after being put in to bat. Unfortunately for him, it wasn't enough to prevent DC from registering an 8-wicket win.

IPL 2022: DC skipper Pant happy with close to perfect game, RR's Samson rues lack of runs and wickets

Delhi Capitals' skipper Rishabh Pant reckoned at the toss that anything in the range of 140-160 would be a good target for them to chase down against Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday. His words turned out to be true, as the pace trio of Mitchell Marsh, Chetan Sakariya and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each to restric Rajasthan to 160/6 and then DC chased the total down with ease to win by eight wickets. All-rounder Marsh came out to lead the run-chase with a 62-ball 89 while David Warner hanged around to play the anchor role, remaining unbeaten on 52 off 41 balls as Delhi earned a crucial win with 11 balls to spare, which has kept them alive in the race to playoffs. "It was close to a perfect game as, I believe, there is always space for improvement. On these kind of wickets where there is little turn, you can go either way. I am happy we bowled first. I thought 140-160 was a good score and said so at the toss, and we got there," said Pant after the match.

IPL 2022, DC vs RR: Mitchell Marsh takes Delhi Capitals to crucial win over Rajasthan Royals

Delhi Capitals remained stubborn in their pursuit of victory. Mitchell Marsh and David Warner made it a one-sided contest as Capitals easily chased down 161, registering an eight-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday. In full bloom, it was an all-round show by Marsh who first returned figures of 3-0-25-2 before excelling with the bat to bring his first half-century of the IPL. En route his 89 off 62 balls, Marsh was accompanied by Warner (52 not out off 41 balls), who, for a change, played second fiddle. The Aussie duo stitched a 144-run partnership. AS IT HAPPENED | SCORECARD | POINTS TABLEThe win takes Capitals to 12 points, giving a big boost to their playoff chances. Royals, despite appearing to be a strong contender, now find themselves dependent on the result of their remaining two matches. From missed opportunities to dropped catches and luck evading Royals, nothing went in their favour. It is at this stage of the tournament that Royals need their skipper Sanju Samson to lead from the front. But the wait is only getting longer. Earlier, in the face of quality bowling by Capitals seamers - Chetan Sakariya, Anrich Nortje, Mitchell Marsh and Shardul Thakur - Ravichandran Ashwin did not muck up and instead responded with clarity of mind. Not a recognised batter in the T20s, Ashwin's 50 off 38 balls while batting at one down is proof enough of his versatility. At 35, the off-spinner continues to experiment, innovate and upgrade himself to add value to the team.

Watch: Lucky David Warner Is Not Out Despite Getting Bowled By Rajasthan Royals' Yuzvendra Chahal

David Warner and Mitchell Marsh were in great form during Delhi Capitals' eight-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match on Wednesday. However, Warner rode his luck to stay unbeaten on 52 off 41 deliveries. Out of the few lucky escapes that he got, one was particularly bizarre. In the ninth over of DC's chase of 161, Warner was bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal. However, the bails did not fall off and Warner was declared not out.
