Aaron Finch dropped to four in the batting order and found some confidence-boosting form on Wednesday, hitting 58 to steer Australia to a three-wicket win over the West Indies in the opening T20 international.
Australia vs West Indies, 1st T20I Live Updates: Kyle Mayers has provided a flying start to West Indies after the visitors were asked to bat first by Australia. Earlier, Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to bowl against West Indies in the first T20I of the two-match series on Wednesday at Carrara Oval in Queensland. Having lost the series against India, Australia would look to get back to winning ways while West Indies will also search for some momentum heading into the T20 World Cup. Australia will welcome back David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Mitchell Starc. The trio had missed the India tour. Aaron Finch has already clarified that Marsh will not be bowling for now as they ease his workload post his recovery from an ankle injury. (LIVE SCORECARD)
After facing a 1-2 series defeat against India, Australia would look to get back to winning ways in a two-match T20I series against West Indies, beginning Wednesday. The Aaron Finch-led side would look to tick all the boxes heading into the T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin later this month. David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Mitchell Starc are all aking a comeback to the squad. On the other hand, Ashton Agar and Kane Richardson have been rested for this particular series.
MELBOURNE : Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is set to return at number three in the first T20 World Cup warm-up against West Indies on Wednesday but will be spared bowling duties as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.
Mitchell Marsh is set to return at number three in the first T20 World Cup warm-up against West Indies on Wednesday but will be spared bowling duties as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury. Marsh's return is good news for defending champions Australia in the lead-up to the October 16 to November 13 World Cup given Marcus Stoinis is still nursing a side strain. Captain Aaron Finch said Stoinis remained on track to play against England in Perth on Sunday in the first of three T20Is.
All-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been ruled out of Australia's two-match T20I series against West Indies as he continues his recovery from a side strain he suffered in early September, reducing the opportunities for Australia's selectors to prepare their finest team for the World Cup. According to ESPNcricinfo, prior to playing the first game of a two-match series against West Indies on Wednesday, Stoinis did not travel to the Gold Coast with the Australian team. Instead, he has stayed in Perth to finish his healing.
Star batter David Warner played a crucial role in Australia's T20 World Cup triumph last year, and is ready to spearhead their title defense at home when tournament kicks off next month. Warner has been one of mainstays in the Australian team, across formats, for almost a decade, but his debut in Test cricket came as a bit of a surprise to many as he had not played a first-class game before that. Notably, Warner was the first Australian cricketer in 132 years to make his Test debut before making his domestic first-class debut.
Australia's T20 World Cup-winning all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has expressed no surprise over his fellow teammate Cameron Green's stellar performances in his short career, where the latter struck a 19-ball fifty against India in the recently concluded T20I series. Marsh heaped praises on the 23-year-old for showcasing great skills and playing according to the needs of the team.
