SYDNEY : The debate over the vacant slot at the top of the Australia batting order continues to captivate the nation's sports media a month before the opening clash in a blockbuster five-test series against India.
SYDNEY : The lifetime ban from holding leadership positions in Australian cricket imposed on David Warner for his part in the 2018 ball-tampering scandal has been lifted, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Friday.
Test opening great David Warner has told Australian selectors he is available to come out of retirement and play in the home series against India.
Former Australian opener David Warner has revealed that he is ready to reverse his retirement from Test cricket if Australia call on him to fill a vacancy at the top of the batting order for the upcoming series against India. Warner, who retired from Test cricket earlier this year after a distinguished career spanning 112 Tests, said he would even be willing to play in New South Wales' next Sheffield Shield match to prove his readiness. Warner made it clear that his offer was serious, denying any suggestion that his comments were made in jest. “I'm always available, just got to pick up the phone,” Warner told Code Sports. “I'm always dead serious. Honestly, if they really needed myself for this series, I'm more than happy to play the next Shield game and go out there and play.”
Shaji Ul Mulk, T Ten Global Sports Founder and Chairman, believes the prospect of seeing India icon MS Dhoni in the T10 format could be a possibility. Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to loom over MS Dhoni's involvement in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Chennai Super Kings. Concerns over Dhoni's participation remain due to his age, knee injury and being tight-lipped about his possible plans of retirement after CSK suffered an exit in the group stage. There has been no word in the rumour mill about Dhoni still wanting to compete in the top T20 league.
Sajid Khan and Noman Ali are as different as chalk and cheese but they gelled perfectly as they tore through England's batting to give Pakistan a long-awaited Test win. The spin pair took all 20 wickets on a worn, turning, Multan track for a 152-run win to set up a third Test winner-takes-all showdown at Rawalpindi starting on Thursday. Left-armer Noman, 38, is the senior partner of a pair who have played together in eight Tests. "We bowled with a lot of confidence and his energy is always very high," Noman told AFP about his partner, off-spinner Sajid.
MELBOURNE :New South Wales teenage batting talent Sam Konstas has soared into selectors' calculations for the test series against India with his inclusion in the Australia A squad for matches against India A.
Veteran Australia batter Steve Smith will return to his favoured number four position after a short stint as an opener in the upcoming Test series against India, national selector George Bailey confirmed on Monday. Post opener David Warner's retirement earlier this year, Smith had willingly volunteered open the innings. Although he made an unbeaten 91 in only his second Test in the new role, the 35-year-old didn't fare well in the series against New Zealand, collecting a total of 51 runs in four innings.
