Fast bowler Mark Wood proved his lack of experience in the Indian Premier League would not be an issue after he claimed the best figures for an Englishman in the tournament on Saturday, guiding Lucknow Super Giants to a win over Delhi Capitals.
There is rarely a better sight in cricket than a pace bowler running in full throttle and rattling the stumps of a batter. The same happened during Delhi Capitals' first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday with Prithvi Shaw facing the music from LSG pacer Mark Wood. The fast bowler from England angled in a good length ball from wide of the crease in the fifth over of DC's innings, as they chased a 194-run target. Shaw had a big gap between bat and pad and his feet did not move either as the ball broke his defence. The stumps were rattled.
Mark Wood scarred the Delhi Capitals top-order with scorching pace as his five-wicket haul beautifully complemented debutant Kyle Mayers' superb 73 in Lucknow Super Giants' comfortable 50 run win in their IPL opener, in Lucknow on Saturday. Mayers, who got a chance to showcase his exploits because of Quinton de Kock's absence, hit seven sixes in his 38-ball knock which was largely responsible for solid 193/6 in 20 overs. In reply, Delhi Capitals managed only 143 for 9 with David Warner (56 off 48 balls) fight hardly being any sort of consolation.
IPL 2023, LSG vs DC Live Updates: Lucknow Super Giants are three down against Delhi Capitals. Opener KL Rahul lost his wicket to Chetan Sakariya before Deepak Hooda was trapped by Kuldeep Yadav. A beauty from Axar Patel got rid off Kyle Mayers, who scored 73 off 38 balls. Earlier DC skipper David Warner won the toss and opted to bowl in the game. Under the leadership of Rahul, LSG would aim to do further better this season. In their inaugural IPL edition, LSG went till the Eliminator match. Talking about DC, they will be led by a new skipper. As Rishabh Pant is ruled out of the entire season due to injury, it is Warner, who is captaining the side in IPL 2023. (LIVE SCORECARD)
Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan equalled Virat Kohli's massive feat during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 opener against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mohali on Saturday. The PBKS skipper was once again at his gritty best as he stitched together a solid 50-run partnership with Sri Lanka's Bhanuka Rajapaksa for the second wicket. This was the 94th 50-run partnership for Dhawan in IPL history and he is now joint-top with Virat Kohli as the batsmen with the most half-century partnerships. Suresh Raina is third with 83 while David Warner is in fourth position with 82.
Delhi Capitals will kick-start their IPL 2023 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Led by Australia star batter David Warner in the absence of Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals will look for a winning start with the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and others in their squad. It will be interesting to see what will be the team's Playing XI for the campaign opener will look like.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will take center stage in Match 3 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday at the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow. For the first time, LSG will play in front of their own fans and they would be eager to kick-start their campaign with a win. LSG finished third last season, before losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator. DC, on the other hand, just missed on top four, finishing fifth with 14 points. While David Warner will lead DC in the absence of Rishabh Pant, it will be Mitchell Marsh who holds the key for the capital-based outfit.
Mitchell Marsh's brute power with the willow will be Delhi Capitals' lethal weapon as they brace up for life without Rishabh Pant while starting their Indian Premier League campaign against Lucknow Super Giants, at the Ekana Sports City on Saturday. LSG, who will be playing at home for the first time, is an equally beleaguered outfit if not more, with skipper KL Rahul going through the toughest phase of his career and has been on a downward spiral for quite some time now.
