Daria Kasatkina has hit out at the French Open crowd after she was booed off court following her defeat by Elina Svitolina.
The French Open is set for a Super Sunday with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka all in action as the fourth round begins. They are complemented by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daria Kasatkina, as they all eye a place in the quarter-finals.
PARIS : Former French Open quarter-finalist Elina Svitolina moved into the Roland Garros fourth round with a determined performance to stave off giant-killing Russian Anna Blinkova and claim a 2-6 6-2 7-5 victory on Friday.
PARIS : Aryna Sabalenka swatted aside Kamilla Rakhimova to remind her rivals of her French Open title credentials while Russian 11th seed Karen Khachanov also moved into the fourth round by stopping wildcard Thanasi Kokkinakis on Friday.
Jessica Pegula's hopes of a deep run in Paris were ended in comprehensive fashion by Belgian Elise Mertens. The 28th seed cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory to reach the fourth round for the third time. World number three Pegula, who only has two WTA Tour titles to her name, has still never passed the quarter-final stage of a Grand Slam tournament. "I'm very happy to win in two sets. She's a very good player," said Mertens. The former Australian Open semi-finalist will next face the winner of an all-Russian tie between Anastasia Potapova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
World No. 3 Jessica Pegula became the highest-ranked player in the women's draw to exit the French Open on Thursday.
Daria Kasatkina issued a statement of intent at the French Open by flattening Peyton Stearns 6-0 6-1 in just 55 minutes to reach the fourth round. The ninth seed bageled her beleaguered opponent in 25 minutes to take the opening set and broke early in the second to seize control of a one-sided encounter. Ad Stearns eventually got on the board after a run of eight consecutive games for the Russian, but she was soon broken again as Kasatkina continued her relentless march towards victory.
