MELBOURNE, Australia — Ash Barty ended a long drought by reaching the Australian Open final with a 6-1, 6-3 win over unseeded Madison Keys.
Ash Barty has reached the final of her home major for the first time in her career, becoming the first local player in 42 years to reach the Australian Open women's singles decider.
Danielle Collins has beaten Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-1 on Rod Laver Arena, setting up an epic Australian Open final against home favourite Ashleigh Barty. Collins started the match in explosive fashion, powering a succession of winners down the line which were well beyond Swiatek’s reach. She won the first game after her opponent double faulted at a crucial moment, capitalising ruthlessly, before dropping a single point on serve and then securing a double break to leave the world No 9 desperately searching for answers.
The world number one overwhelmed the 51st-ranked American 6-1, 6-3 in just 62 minutes to set up showdown against either Polish seventh seed Iga Swiatek or American 27th seed Danielle Collins.
