Mumbai Indians registered only their second win in the ongoing IPL 2022 season, beating table-toppers Gujarat Titans by five runs in a thriller on Friday. While Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma set the foundations of MI's match-winning total, it was Tim David's 21-ball 44 blitz that provided the much-needed finishing touches and in the end it proved to be the difference. In MI's previous match as well against Rajasthan Royals, David had smashed 20 not out off just 9 balls, showcasing his stunning hitting abilities. But interestingly, MI had dropped the batter after just two games and didn't bring him back into the fold until the match against RR.
Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Virat Kohli showed glimpses of returning to form against Gujarat Titans as he played a 58-run knock but his innings against Chennai Super Kings has left a lot to be desired. The right-handed batter scored 30 runs off 33 balls and he found it tough to register big strikes. Former New Zealand batter Daniel Vettori said that at no stage did Kohli look like going for anything but a single against CSK.
Daniel Vettori and South African spinner Imran Tahir reckon that wides and height no-balls should also come under the DRS scanner as umpires' call sparked fresh debate during Rajasthan Royals' IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders here. Defending 18 runs from the last two overs, Royals skipper Sanju Samson was visibly upset by umpire Nitin Pandit's three wide calls despite considerable movement from the batters -- Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana -- on a couple of occasions in the penultimate over on Monday. Samson then went on to ask for a review when the ball was miles away from the bat in his sarcastic way of protest.
The Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders match on Monday saw an interesting incident where Royals captain Sanju Samson decided to review a decision out of sheer frustration as the on-field umpire ruled it wide, despite batter Rinku Singh moving around his crease and going further away from the off-stump to try and play the ball. KKR were in a comfortable position and looked good to win the match anyway, but a few contentious wide calls left Samson frustrated.
