Carlos Alcaraz suffered a stunning defeat to 135th-ranked Hungarian qualifier Fabian Marozsan as he was beaten 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in the third round of the Italian Open on Monday.
Andy Murray came from a set down to defeat Pedro Cachin 2-6 7-5 7-6(3) and book a spot in the Gijon Open quarter-finals. Murray headed into the match after defeating sixth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round. French tennis player Corentin Moutet and Bulgaria's Adrian Andreev got physical following their Round of 16 match at the Orleans Challenger tournament. Andreev, ranked 247th in the world, stunned top-seeded Moutet 2-6 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2). Things, however, got ugly between the two players at the post-match handshake as Moutet and Andreev held on to each other's hand for a while and exchanged words. However, Andreev appeared to bump Moutet, before things got physical between the two. Moutet then screamed at the Andreev, and also nudged the Bulgarian in anger.
There were some appalling scenes at a Challenger event in France as tennis players Adrian Andreev and Corentin Moutet almost came to blows on the court. As footage captured by fans and posted on social media demonstrated, the two players had an angry exchange at the net at the end of their ill-tempered match with the umpire having to zip off his chair and separate them before any punches were thrown. Australia's Nick Kyrgios sent defending champion Daniil Medvedev tumbling out of the US Open on Sunday as US teenager Coco Gauff reached the quarter-finals for the first time. The notoriously temperamental 23rd-seeded Kyrgios produced some scintillating shot-making on his way to a superb 7-6 (13/11), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over the world number one from Russia. Kyrgios, who was beaten by Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final in July, showed grit and composure to save three set points in the opening set before holding his nerve to win an epic tie-break 13/11 before a raucous Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd.
