HS Prannoy, PV Sindhu To Lead Indian Team At Sudirman Cup

HS Prannoy and two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will lead the Indian challenge at the 2023 Sudirman Cup, scheduled in Suzhou, China, from May 14-21. The senior national selection committee, which met here on Tuesday, picked a "balanced" squad with an aim to clinch a first-ever medal in the mixed team championships. The Indian men had created history last year by winning the prestigious Thomas Cup and hopes of a potential podium finished were raised further following the bronze winning performance in the Asian Mixed Team Championships earlier this year.

The world No. 17 Indian pair, which had reached the semifinals of the last edition, will next face Chinese combination of Li Wen Mei and Liu Xuan Xuan. Last year's finalist Sen, however, couldn't find his touch against Anders Antonsen, going down 13-21, 15-21 in 52 minutes. It was a sweet revenge from the Danish, who had gone down in straight games to the Indian in 2022.

Indian shuttler Satwiksairaj Rankireddy turned 22 on Saturday. The men's doubles badminton star received a grand wish from India's Commonwealth Games contingent. The Sports Authority of India shared the video of the celebration on Twitter in which Satwiksairaj could be seen blushing as soon as the CWG contingent wished him happy birthday. Shuttlers Sumeeth Reddy and Kidambi Srikanth were among the ones present in the party alongside paddlers Harmeet Desai and Sharath Kamal. It is worth noting that all the players were in formal attire as they were a part of the felicitation program organised in the Prime Minister's Office for the medal winners of CWG 2022.
