MEXICO CITY :Ferrari's Carlos Sainz beat Formula One title contenders Max Verstappen and Lando Norris to pole position at the Mexico City Grand Prix on Saturday with a fastest lap he said was almost perfect.
Max Verstappen edged out title rival Lando Norris as Ferrari's Carlos Sainz claimed pole position at the Mexico Grand Prix.

Carlos Sainz believes his days as a race-winning driver will not be over when he leaves Ferrari for Williams next season. The 30-year-old Spaniard, who has won three times with Ferrari, told reporters on Thursday ahead of this weekend's Mexico Grand Prix that he is hungry for more and believes he can chase victories in future. "Nothing would make me happier than achieving something like that before the end of the year," he said, referring to the prospect of another win for Ferrari before he is replaced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Charles Leclerc led Carlos Sainz home as Ferrari claimed a resounding one-two triumph in Sunday's United States Grand Prix after Lando Norris was relegated to fourth, having finished third on track ahead of title rival Max Verstappen who took the third podium spot. McLaren's Norris was penalised five seconds for gaining an advantage by leaving the track to pass the series leader and Red Bull's three-time champion on lap 53 of the 56-lap contest and dropped to fourth. Verstappen has now extended his lead over Norris to 57 points in the drivers' championship with five races left this season.
