Max Verstappen had a far from ideal FP3 session with qualifying just hours away, but it could have been a whole lot worse after he went off the track at Turn 2. The reigning F1 world champion had opted to stay in the garage for the first half of the final practice before coming out on track with 24 minutes to go.
Fernando Alonso was quickest in the third practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on Saturday. The hugely experienced Spaniard, a former world champion, has impressed since Friday’s first practice session and as the rain poured down throughout, the Alpine driver set the fastest time.
The final hour of practice before qualifying started in cold and wet conditions after heavy rain, which had hit Montreal regularly over the past few days, arrived early enough on Saturday to disrupt proceedings.
