Statistics for Sunday's season-opening Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix at the Sakhir circuit:
MANAMA: Max Verstappen has yet to win a Formula One season-opener or the Bahrain Grand Prix but Red Bull's double world champion can tick both boxes at Sakhir on Sunday (Mar 5) and start where he left off last year.
MANAMA : Ferrari's Charles Leclerc topped the morning timesheets on the final day of Formula One's pre-season test in Bahrain on Saturday but said Red Bull remained the team to beat.
Charles Leclerc believes Ferrari could fall further behind Red Bull, with their current Formula One champion Max Verstappen believing they have improved ahead of the new campaign. Teams are back at the track this weekend as they start testing for the coming season, and Verstappen boasts back-to-back world championships. Ad Red Bull were pushed hard for some of the season by Ferrari, and Mercedes had their moments after a difficult start, but many expect that the status quo will continue and Christian Horner’s team will again dominate.
Ferrari's long-serving race strategy engineer Ravin Jain has taken over from Spaniard Inaki Rueda as the head of strategy of the iconic car-maker's F1 team. Jain will begin the high-pressure job at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix next weekend. Reports say the Ferrari F1 team management decided to promote Jain following quite a few high-profile errors last season. Ferrari did well last season with Charles Leclerc finishing second behind title winner Max Verstappen of Red Bull. Their other driver George Russell was fourth.
