PARIS : Highlights of the seventh day at the French Open on Saturday (times GMT):
We are into the third round of the French Open and Day 7 promises much as the likes of Iga Swiatek, Holger Rune and Alexander Zverev are set to continue their campaigns in Paris as the second week of the tournament begins. Day 6 saw Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka among those to book their places in the fourth round of Roland-Garros.
PARIS :Fourth seed Casper Ruud and holder Iga Swiatek stayed on course to reach consecutive finals at the French Open while a couple of unheralded names in the women's draw continued to show their immense potential on a sunny Thursday at Roland Garros.
Iga Swiatek’s use of the forehand has been compared to that of Casper Ruud after the two stars averaged the same speed for the shot at the 2023 French Open on Thursday. In analysing Swiatek’s 6-4 6-0 second-round victory over Claire Liu on Court Philippe-Chatrier, Eurosport’s Barbara Schett made the observation in The Cube that Swiatek’s average speed with the forehand was 129km an hour in the first set, matching Ruud in his win over Giulio Zeppieri. Ad “Wow, that is absolutely a surprise to me,” remarked former Roland-Garros winner Mats Wilander.
Casper Ruud survived a mid-match lull to reach the French Open third round with a 6-3 6-2 4-6 7-5 victory over Italian youngster Giulio Zeppieri. The Norwegian fourth seed was in cruise control after opening up a two-set advantage on Court Philippe-Chatrier, but a sloppy game when serving to stay in the third set gifted his opponent a route back into the match. Ad Zeppieri suddenly looked alive and full of belief as he cruised through his first two service games of the fourth set, only to falter at 2-2 as Ruud regained control with an important break.
PARIS : Fourth seed Casper Ruud stayed on course to reach consecutive finals at the French Open even as a couple of unheralded names in the women's competition continued to show their immense potential on a sunny Thursday at Roland Garros.
PARIS : Last year's runner-up Casper Ruud turned on the style at the French Open before the fourth seed showed steel to quell Italian qualifier Giulio Zeppieri 6-3 6-2 4-6 7-5 and move into the third round on Thursday.
PARIS: Elena Rybakina’s comfort on clay improved as she eased into the third round at the French Open by beating another Czech teenager on Thursday. The Wimbledon champion, the No. 4 seed at Roland Garros, beat 18-year-old Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-3 on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
