Holger Rune “needs mayhem” to produce his best tennis, according to Eurosport expert Mats Wilander. The 20-year-old Dane crashed out of the French Open to Casper Ruud at the quarter-final stage – just like he did last year – after producing a timid display against his Scandinavian rival.
PARIS : Sixth seed Holger Rune's poor start in his French Open quarter-final defeat to Norway's Casper Ruud on Wednesday proved costly with the Dane littering the court with unforced errors for more than an hour.
Casper Ruud overcame a fightback from Holger Rune to win 6-1 6-2 3-6 6-3 and book his place in the French Open semi-finals for the second year in a row. The pair have a strained relationship after they had a fiery encounter at this tournament last year, and they had met in May at the Rome Masters to contest the semi-finals, with Rune emerging victorious.
PARIS : Norway's fourth seed Casper Ruud battled past 20-year-old Holger Rune of Denmark 6-1 6-2 3-6 6-3 on Wednesday for the second consecutive year to reach the French Open semi-finals.
PARIS : Alexander Zverev returned to the semi-finals of the French Open on Wednesday a year after leaving the tournament in a wheelchair, while Iga Swiatek also maintained her quest for a third title in four years.
PARIS: A resurgent Alexander Zverev shrugged off a mid-match wobble to battle his way into a third consecutive French Open semi-final with a 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-4 victory over Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry on Wednesday (Jun 7).
Alexander Zverev reached the French Open semi-finals for a third successive season on Wednesday, one year after his tournament ended in pain and tears when he tore ankle ligaments which left him in a wheelchair. The German world number 27 claimed a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina and will face either Casper Ruud, the 2022 runner-up, or Holger Rune for a place in Sunday's final. It will be Zverev's sixth Grand Slam semi-final and will be played on the same Philippe Chatrier Court where he suffered his nightmare season-ending injury against Rafael Nadal in 2022.
