World number two Carlos Alcaraz slumped to a shock straight sets loss to Chile's Nicolas Jarry in the semi-finals of the ATP Buenos Aires tournament on Saturday. Defending champion Alcaraz, playing in his first tournament since losing in the Australian Open quarter-finals, was beaten 7-6 (7/2), 6-3 by his 28-year-old opponent. Two-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz had been hoping to reach his first final since losing to Novak Djokovic in the Cincinnati Masters in August and clinch a first title since Wimbledon in July.
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz reached the semi-finals of the Buenos Aires clay-court tournament on Friday with a straight-sets win over Italian qualifier Andrea Vavassori. World number two Alcaraz, playing his first tournament since a shock quarter-final exit at the Australian Open, came through 7-6 (7/1), 6-1 against his 152nd-ranked opponent. Vavassori, who stunned three-time major winner Andy Murray on clay at the Madrid Masters last year, matched the Spanish star blow-for-blow in the opening set.
No. 5 seed Alex de Minaur of Australia smashed 10 aces, saved five of six break points and knocked out No. 2 seed Andrey Rublev of Russia 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3 in a quarterfinal showdown at the ABN AMRO Open on Friday in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
On a day when the third and fourth seeds were felled in three sets, No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner got past French wild card Gael Monfils 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals of the ABN AMRO Open Thursday in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Rafael Nadal on Wednesday hailed longtime rival Novak Djokovic as the best player in the history of the sport. "The numbers say yes, for me yes (he is the best in history)," Nadal said in an interview with El Objective de La Sexta when asked "who is the best?" Djokovic has 24 Grand Slam titles having surpassed Nadal's 22 when he captured last year's French Open. Despite that success, the controversial world number one from Serbia still struggles to translate his on-court triumphs into off-court popularity.

Rafael Nadal has pulled out of next week's Qatar Open and postponed his return to competitive tennis because he has yet to make a full recovery from the torn muscle he suffered in Brisbane last month.
