LONDON (AP) — Back-to-back Champions League hat tricks just reinforce the enduring value of Karim Benzema's clinical finishing to Real Madrid.
Christensen has urged Chelsea to take a "nothing to lose" approach if they are to revive their season following Wednesday's convincing 3-1 loss at home to Real Madrid. Blues centre-back Christensen was given a tough time by Real hat-trick hero Karim Benzema, as well as Vincius Junior, as the title-holders were well beaten in the first leg of a Champions League quarter-final. It was a fine return to Stamford Bridge for former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti but a rather more sobering occasion for Denmark defender Christensen, who was replaced at half-time.
Tuchel on recent Chelsea defensive performances
Andreas Christensen insists Chelsea must adopt a “nothing to lose” attitude for their second-leg tie against Real Madrid after Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat.
Real Madrid might want both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland this summer but Karim Benzema's latest Champions League hat-trick shows they already have the world's deadliest number nine. There is an even an argument to say Benzema is the finest player in the world full-stop right now, after he upstaged Mbappe in Madrid's demolition of Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 and with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah struggling for form. Carlo Ancelotti said in November Benzema was "not crying" about another Ballon d'Or passing him by, the rankings instead putting the Frenchman fourth.
It’s probably fair to say that not a lot of people were predicting what would happen at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening. However, just as they were on the weekend against Brentford, Chelsea were on the wrong end of a bad result in front of their home fans.
