With Australia needing just 76 on the third day of the third Test against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the hosts needed and early breakthrough. Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin provided just that on the second ball of the day as he got Usman Khawaja. Ashwin bowled a fuller delivery close to the off stump. Khawaja, who came forward to defend, got a faint outside edge. The Indians appealed in unison and the umpire gave out. Though Khawaja went for the review the decision was unchanged as there was a spike on UltraEdge.

Nathan Lyon was once again the pick of the bowlers for Australia as the veteran spinner completed a brilliant eight-wicket haul to hand his side the advantage against India in the third Test match in Indore on Thursday. Lyon ended up dismissing India skipper Rohit Sharma (12), Cheteshwar Pujara (59), Ravindra Jadeja (7), Srikar Bharat (3), Ravichandran Ashwin (16), Umesh Yadav (0) and Mohammed Siraj (0) in the second innings. As a result, he piped India legend Anil Kumble to become the highest wicket-taker in India-Australia Test matches. Lyon broke Kumble's record with the wicket of Umesh and in the process, he also became the most successful spinner against India in Test cricket. Lyon went past Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan with the wicket of Gill to add the massive milestone to his name.

Ravichandran Ashwin returned with a three-wicket haul on Thursday to help India skittle out Australia for 197 in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar. Ashwin's performance, in which he took the wickets of Peter Handscomb, Alex Carey and Nathan Lyon, helped the hosts limit the visitors' lead. The three wickets also meant that Ashwin now has 689 international wickets, surpassing Kapil Dev (687), to be the third-highest wicket-taker for India across formats. Anil Kumble (953) and Harbhajan Singh (707) hold the top two places.
