All 10 franchises are set for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, having decided which players they wish to retain and release ahead of the bidding war. Mumbai Indians signing of Hardik Pandya emerged as the biggest talking point, with the Gujarat Titans skipper deciding to re-join his old franchise after spending two seasons with GT. Meanwhile the Gujarat-based franchise named Shubman Gill as their skipper. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, traded Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore. Among other highlights, Delhi Capitals decided to retain wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant despite there being no clarity over his potential return to the field. Pant missed the entire IPL 2023 season because of the car crash he was involved in in December 2022.
All-rounders Hardik Pandya and Cameron Green were part of two big trades in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the mini auction for the new season, scheduled to take place on December 19. After spending two seasons at Gujarat Titans as captain, Pandya re-joined his first franchise Mumbai Indians as a part of an all-cash deal. He started his IPL career with MI in 2015 and represented them for seven seasons before making a switch to GT in 2022.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday officially announced that Gujarat Titans' (GT) captain, Hardik Pandya, is set to move back to his first franchise, Mumbai Indians, following a trade between the two franchises. The all-rounder spent two momentous years with GT, spearheading their campaign with aplomb. In GT's debut season in 2022, Hardik ensured a fairytale start, with the team lifting the coveted trophy, while they finished runners-up in their second season after a last-ball defeat in a thrilling final earlier this year.
India's T20I captain Hardik Pandya on Sunday returned to his "spiritual home" Mumbai Indians after an all-cash deal trade-off with Gujarat Titans was formally completed following 72 hours of intense drama. On Sunday at 5 pm, the IPL retention window was closed and at that point, Gujarat Titans named their IPL-winning captain in the retention list raising a lot of eyebrows. However it was learnt that the formal paperwork wasn't yet completed and hence IPL and BCCI didn't give greenlight of approval for the most anticipated move of this transfer season. "Yes, Hardik's trade off got completed after 5 pm. The deal is now formalised and he is a MI player. It's been a tripartite all cash deal. MI have traded their all-rounder Cameron Green to RCB in an all cash deal. After that they had requisite funds to settle an all-cash deal with Gujarat Titans and procure Hardik's services," a senior BCCI official and IPL Governing Council member told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Mumbai Indians announced their list of retained and released players on Sunday. While Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, Tim David and Jasprit Bumrah were among the star players that were retained by the side, the likes of Tristan Stubbs and Chris Jordan were released by them. It is interesting to note that Mumbai also released star pacer Jofra Archer, who they bought for Rs 8 crore in 2022 IPL auction. The remaining purse value for Mumbai Indians is 15.25 crore.
