MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Rory McIlroy was paying attention to court proceedings Tuesday, when a federal judge in California denied a temporary restraining order to three suspended PGA Tour members who signed with LIV Golf and then wanted to play in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A federal judge on Tuesday denied a temporary restraining order to three golfers who were seeking to participate in the FedEx Cup Playoffs after leaving the PGA Tour for the upstart LIV Golf Invitational Series.
Cameron Smith is set to join the breakaway Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series, a fellow Australian golfer has claimed. Rumours have strongly connected the winner of The Open with a move to the series, which has attracted a number of golf's biggest names this year. Ad Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Dustin Johnson were among those to join ahead of the first event in June, while American trio Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed have all also since defected.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A federal judge in California might decide Tuesday whether to grant a temporary restraining order that would allow three golfers who left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf to participate in the FedEx Cup playoffs, starting this week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The PGA Tour has accused a number of LIV Golf rebels of "fabricating an emergency" after they filed a lawsuit requesting the lifting of their suspensions in order to be able to play in the lucrative season-ending FedEx Cup Play-offs.
Luke Donald has said he is in no rush to name additional Ryder Cup vice captains and is giving little thought to the LIV Golf controversy. Donald was named Europe’s Ryder Cup captain earlier this week, following the decision to strip Henrik Stenson of the role due to his move to LIV Golf. Ad/> The Englishman has opted for continuity in the short term by retaining Stenson’s choices of Edoardo Molinari and Thomas Bjorn as his vice captains.
