LONDON : England head coach Brendon McCullum said they will have to do some deep thinking about their approach after being "exposed" in the final four matches in India but is convinced their first series defeat under his watch will make them a better side.
England's comprehensive 4-1 Test series loss in India, culminating with an innings and 64-run defeat inside three days in Dharamsala last week, has left coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes with several difficult decisions. They will, however, have plenty of time to conduct a thorough review, with their side not in red-ball action again until facing the West Indies at Lord's in July. England were completely outplayed by the hosts as they lost the Test match within three days. As a result, England lost the series 1-4 and this was the first series loss in the 'Bazball' era under skipper Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. In the video, the Dharamsala crowd can be seen singing "Bazball gets battered everywhere they go" and Bairstow, who was positioned at the boundary, was seen saying something in reply.
England left-arm spinner Tom Hartley conceded the second-highest runs by a visiting bowler in a Test series against India during the fifth and final Test at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on Saturday. Hartley conceded 795 runs in the five matches he played in the series against India. He is just behind teammate Adil Rashid, who conceded 861 runs in the series back in 2016. India defeated England by an innings and 64 runs in 5th Test.
Young England Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir became the first English bowler to grab two fifers at the age of 21 during the third day of the fifth and final Test of the five-match series at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on Saturday. Bashir registered his fifer during the first session of the third day of the Last Test at Dharamsala. He bowled a total of 46.1 overs where he conceded 173 runs in his spell and bowled five maiden overs. The spinner took the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Paddikkal, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, and Jasprit Bumrah.
As Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill piled up their respective centuries on Day 2 of the 5th Test in Dharamsala, England captain Ben Stokes took the matter into his own hands, bowling for the first time in the series.
