Brendon McCullum Reveals Why Andre Russell Didn't Bowl His Full Quota Of Overs vs RCB

Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Brendon McCullum on Wednesday revealed that Andre Russell wasn't 100 per cent fit towards the end of the IPL 2022 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the 12th over, KKR all-rounder Russell dived on the boundary and suffered some problem with his bowling shoulder. Consequently, Venkatesh had to bowl one of his overs at the death. "Dre had run around the boundary and dived, and unfortunately picked up a little bit of a bump. His shoulder was a little bit sore. But Dre being Dre, he still wants to try to get the job done, and he wasn't quite able to. Those are things which happen in low-scoring games," McCullum said in the post-match press conference.

IPL 2022: Pratham Singh looking to dazzle in KKR colours

Pratham Singh boasts of a solid academic background having completed his engineering and cracked India's top business school, ISB, but all he is really passionate about is cricket. The 29-year-old from Delhi has been a consistent performer for Railways in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and even though he was picked up by now-defunct IPL franchise Gujarat Lions in 2017, he didn't get any game time. A five-year long wait followed, which finally ended when he was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders at the last mega auction.

IPL 2022: Smart move by Brendon McCullum and KKR management to make Shreyas Iyer captain; Ajinkya Rahane a leader in the group, says KKR mentor David Hussey

Pat Cummins at the last auction, Kolkata Knight Riders chose Shreyas Iyer to lead the team as the new captain. KKR mentor David Hussey talking to journalists in a media interaction organised by the team called Iyer a born leader. Iyer, who had captained Delhi Capitals in 2020 and taken them to their maiden final, was released after the 2021 season and KKR splurged a whopping Rs. 12.25 crore to acquire the services of the prolific Mumbaikar. KKR were in the hunt for a new captain after they released Eoin Morgan ahead of the players' auction and they looked to Iyer to fulfill that role. "Shreyas is a born leader. Just the way he walks out and sort of commands. He gets all the respect of the players. Knowing Pat (Cummins) really well, he would be a good deputy and good leader amongst the group. He would also lead from the front, but the way Shreyas has captained in the past for Delhi, he has a very good cricketing brain," Hussey said in response to a question by TimesofIndia.com in the media interaction.

IPL 2022: Support staff must manage players' workload to minimize injuries, says David Hussey

Shreyas Iyer? Team mentor David Hussey feels they do have the combination right, and now it is over to the players and support staff. The support staff in particular have a huge role to play, given that some of KKR's key players are prone to injuries. Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy all have in the past missed crucial matches and Hussey accepts workload management is an important area to work on.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer on Saturday said he's flexible and ready to "explore", depending upon the team scenario in the upcoming IPL. Shreyas had a hugely successful T20I series against Sri Lanka in which he was not dismissed across three matches, hitting 57 not out off 28 balls, 74 not out off 44 and 73 not out off 45 to be adjudged Player-of-the-Series in India's 3-0 win.
