Blake Snell's prolonged free agency has ended.
Two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell and the San Francisco Giants have agreed to a $62 million US, two-year contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Monday night.
Left-hander Blake Snell took the mound on May 31 in Miami last season with one win over his first 10 starts and an unsightly 5.04 ERA. Fantasy investors, quite obviously, were not pleased and many moved on. Snell had walked four-plus hitters in half of those outings and, while he had more strikeouts than innings pitched, a 1.60 WHIP does damage. Sure, Snell had won 21 games and the 2018 AL Cy Young Award with the Rays, but it had been a roller coaster of inconsistent fantasy numbers and low volume even since for the Rays and Padres.
We've been waiting to unveil our final offseason grades… and waiting… and waiting. We can wait no longer. Even though Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery and J.D. Martinez remain unsigned among the major free agents, and useful players such as Michael Lorenzen, Adam Duvall and Tommy Pham are still out there, it's the middle of spring training. The Dodgers and Padres open in Korea in less than two weeks. We have to roll this out and move on.

SCOTTSDALE — Agent Scott Boras said Monday that, just in the past week, four new teams have inquired about free agent pitchers Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery. The extent of the interest is unknown — as are the teams — but Boras said the calls for those players are beginning to pick up as the need for pitching increases.
Spring training is well underway, the first game of the 2024 season is on Thursday, the regular season starts in a month…and there are a ton of impact players who have yet to find new teams. And the rest of the league isn't happy about it.
