Reigning Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir has capped the celebration of a half-century of women in the Boston Marathon with a finish to top them all.

Chebet won in two hours, six minutes and 51 seconds to top the first all-Kenyan podium since 2012, beating 2019 Boston winner Lawrence Cherono by 30 seconds with defending champion Benson Kipruto third in 2:07:27. "I'm extremely proud," Chebet said through a translator. "I knew I had it in my legs to win." Jepchirchir, last year's New York Marathon champion, won her Boston debut by edging Ethiopia's Ababel Yeshaneh in the final strides, taking her fifth victory in a row since 2019 in 2:21:01.

Peres Jepchirchir celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Boston Marathon women’s division by winning a see-saw sprint down Boylston Street on Monday as the race returned to its traditional Patriots’ Day spot in the schedule for the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Kenyan Chebet wins Boston Marathon men's title in first major victory
Boston Marathon on Monday, as fellow Kenyan Evans Chebet dominated a stellar field to win the men's race. With one mile remaining, Jepchirchir sprinted ahead of Ababel Yeshaneh but the Ethiopian refused to bow and retook the lead before the pair battled down the final stretch. Jepchirchir, who won in New York in November, needed every ounce of energy to break the tape in two hours 21 minutes and one second, four seconds ahead of her rival.
