This Protest Is For Our Rights: Wrestler Bajrang Punia On Second Day Of Agitation Against Federation

Demanding strict action against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and several coaches who have been accused of allegedly sexually harassing multiple athletes, hundreds of wrestlers sat on protest in Delhi on Thursday. For the second day, top wrestlers like Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat among others gathered at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi at 10 AM, and were joined by other members from the fraternity. Vinesh Phogat, who is a triple Commonwealth Games medallist, went public with the allegations on Wednesday, before the country's sports ministry asked the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to respond to the charges within 72 hours.

Bajrang, gunning for his maiden world title, suffered a head injury in his opening bout against Cuba's Alejandro Enrique Vlades Tobier in the very first minute of the clash in Belgrade.

Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat Named In Indian Wrestling Squad For World Senior Championships

Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat were among a host of star Indian wrestlers named for the World Senior Championships to be held in Belgrade, Serbia from September 10-18. The Indian team was picked after selection trials at SAI Training Centres in Lucknow and Sonepat on Monday and Tuesday. Tokyo Olympian Vinesh, who completed a hat-trick of gold medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games earlier this month, will lead the women's team while the men's freestyle squad will have Olympic medallists Bajrang and Ravi Dahiya, and 2019 World Championships silver winner Deepak Punia.
