New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell won the toss, which had also been delayed by 30 minutes, and opted to bat but no action was possible for two-and-a-half hours. Pakistan handed T20I caps to batsman Usman Khan, spinner Abrar Ahmed and all-rounder Muhammad Irfan Khan, while Robinson debuted for New Zealand. Meanwhile, veteran pacer Mohammam Amir also returned to action after almost four years out, having announced his retirement after fall out with the management back then.

Both teams are expected to field the same playing XIs as initially planned for Thursday's match. Imad Wasim's omission has been questioned by former players after the all-rounder was left out of Pakistan team for the first T20I against New Zealand, having come out of retirement to play international cricket again. Wasim and left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir came out of retirement ahead of the T20 World Cup in June this year after much convincing, but the spin bowling all-rounder did not find a place in the eleven on Thursday.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan and New Zealand look to fine-tune their squad and assess the players who could feature in the 15-player squad for the marquee event. With their majority of players involved in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, New Zealand have named experienced all-rounder Michael Bracewell as the skipper of the tour. Meanwhile, Pakistan will be led by Babar Azam who was recently reinstated as the skipper of the white ball format in place of Shaheen Afridi. (Live Scorecard)
Pakistan's reinstated skipper Babar Azam finally addressed the elephant in the room and opened up on the recent captaincy controversy, where he was reappointed as captain, replacing Shaheen Shah Afridi. Questions were raised over Afridi's leadership with his led side suffering a 1-4 loss to New Zealand away from home during his first captaincy assignment. Among the commotion surrounding the leadership, there were media reports that Shaheen was dissatisfied with the abrupt manner in which he was removed from captaincy. Shaheen's enigmatic social media statements added fuel to the reports.
Pakistan men's national team manager Wahab Riaz has rubbished the rumours of rift between star players Shaheen Shah Afridi and Babar Azam after the latter was handed back the T20I captaincy following the pacer's brief stint as skipper during T20I series in New Zealand back in January. Shaheen was given the T20I leadership following Pakistan's underwhelming performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup held in India back last year, in which they finished fifth after winning just four matches out of nine. This appointment was made keeping in mind the ICC T20 World Cup, starting this year from June 1 in the West Indies/USA.
