Pakistan's star paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi started the ODI series against West Indies in remarkable fashion as he took a spectacular reflex catch off his own bowling to give the hosts the breakthrough in the first ODI at Multan. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board for preparing flat tracks at home. Butt, was asked about Babar Azam's captaincy skills by the anchor on his YouTube channel. Butt praised Babar for his recent successes but said that a captain's skills are honed in Test cricket. He then went on to criticise the board for preparing tracks which does not allow a captain to strategise and go for a win. Pakistan earlier this year lost at home to Australia and the pitches used for the Test matches came in for a lot of criticism.
Pakistan cricket team is gearing up to face West Indies in a three-ODI series in Multan starting with the first match on Wednesday. Heat is going to play a major factor in the series as the temperature in the Pakistan city is expected to hover around 45 degree Celsius. The players are also aware of this. "It's a challenging scenario but now it has been decided and we are preparing for it. Definitely it is hot, but we are having a conditioning camp and acclimatising to the weather. We started our training camp earlier in the day from 2:30pm so that we could feel the heat and get ourselves ready for the matches," Babar Azam, Pakistan captain, said in a press conference recently.

Babar Azam has refused chairman of selectors Muhammad Wasim's request to accommodate specialist opener Shan Masood in the middle-order for the West Indies series as the differences between the two is now out in public domain. Wasim in an interview to a YouTube channel had said that he was in touch with Shan, who is scoring heavily in English county championship as well as Vitality T20 blast matches. Wasim had discussed with Shan about the possibility of trying him out in the middle-order in white ball formats as competition for the opening slots was very tight in the Pakistan team.
