Day 9 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games proved to be a fruitful one for the Indian contingent as they added 14 more medals, including four gold, taking the total medal tally to 40. India are now placed at the fifth spot in the medal tally. Stars like Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dahiya, Naveen and Bhavina Patel won the yellow metal on Saturday. Today, the spirit of players like you is also high, the training is also getting better and the atmosphere in the country towards sports is also tremendous. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Thursday named a 37-member Indian athletics team, to be led by Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, with the selection committee picking the athletes on expected lines with no major surprises. Out the of the 37 picked by the selection committee of the AFI, 18 are women, with the likes of star sprinters Hima Das and Dutee Chand getting their berths through the women's 4x100m relay team.

The selectors also named a men's 4x400m relay team. The team also has the likes of Avinash Sable, who broke his own 3000m steeplechase national record for the eighth time recently, as well as Jyothi Yarraji, who broke her own 100m NR twice last month.

Top Indian athletes to jostle for CWG berths during Inter-State Athletics C'ships

Olympic Champion Neeraj Chopra will not be there and the 3000m steeplechase 'record man' Avinash Sable is also unlikely to compete though his name figures in the list of participants. Sources close to Sable would skip the five-day event. The Maharashtra unit, his home state, was also unable to confirm whether he will fly down to India from his training base at Colorado Springs in USA or not.
