Newcastle United built on the feel-good factor of last season as they served up an opening day 5-1 thrashing to Aston Villa at St James's Park on Saturday evening.
Sandro Tonali paid off the first instalment of his €60million transfer fee as he marked a fine debut with his first goal and inspired Newcastle to a 5-1 drubbing of Aston Villa. The 23-year-old Italy international opened the scoring just six minutes into his first competitive appearance for the Magpies and had a hand in two more of their goals as Alexander Isak helped himself to a double and substitutes Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes struck late on after Moussa Diaby, also making his bow in England's top flight, had levelled.
Brighton and Hove Albion shrugged off the absence of Moises Caicedo to thrash newcomers Luton Town 4-1. The Ecuadorian is set to become the most expensive player in Premier League history after a 110 million pounds deal was agreed with Liverpool. However, Caicedo reportedly still prefers a move to Chelsea, who have had a series of bids rejected by Brighton. The Seagulls have also lost Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool from the side that finished sixth last season.
Arsenal are 2-0 up in their Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has admitted he cannot just “slap money on the table” as he attempts to find the last piece of his jigsaw for the new season.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe insisted on Friday he cannot just "slap money on the table" while trying to bolster his squad during the transfer window despite the backing of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Newcastle have spent a net 95 million pounds ($121 million, 110 million euros) this transfer window in signing Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento, with Allan Saint-Maximin having left St James' Park.
