Shaheen Shah Afridi blow as Pakistan tackle Netherlands in key ODI series

The 22-year-old paceman suffered a knee injury on the recent tour of Sri Lanka, a worrying setback with the Asia Cup -- and a meeting with old rivals India -- coming up at the end of the month. He has been ruled out of the first two matches, but Pakistan skipper Babar Azam hopes he could at least play some part in the series. "We're taking a couple of doctors with us to take care of Shaheen and want him to play a game against Netherlands to see if he's fit and ready for the Asia Cup," said Azam.

"Will Find His Form In Asia Cup": Sourav Ganguly On Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has been struggling with his batting form for a long time now. While a century has been eluding the player since November 2019, the ongoing year has seen the former India skipper struggle for even half-centuries. However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is hopeful that the right-handed batter will make a comeback in the upcoming Asia Cup that kicks off on August 27. India start their campaign in the continental tournament on the very next day with a match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium.

Australia Great Glenn McGrath Weighs In On Whether Umran Malik Should Slow Down To Get Better Control

Former Australia pacer Glenn McGrath was all praise for India fast bowler Umran Malik, saying that sheer pace is unique and that cannot be taught to any bowler in the world. Umran impressed everyone with his pace during the Indian Premier League 2022, clocking over 150 kph regularly. As a result, the Jammu and Kashmir pacer recently made his debut for India during the T20I series against Ireland. While several experts have suggested that Umran should focus more on line and length instead of pace. However, McGrath said that he hates seeing fast bowlers sacrificing pace to attain control.

Former Pakistan Captain Weighs In On India's Chances Of Winning Asia Cup

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt feels India are the favourites to win the upcoming Asia Cup, starting from August 27 in the UAE. India will take on Pakistan in their first match of the Asia Cup on August 28 in Dubai. Notably, India have won the last two editions of the Asia Cup without fielding their first-choice team. While analysing India's chances of winning the Asia Cup, Butt said that the team has a big pool of players, which makes them favourites to defend their crown in the UAE.

"If You Are Expecting Wickets From Him...": Ex-India Cricketer's Big Claim About Ravichandran Ashwin

Former India cricketer Akash Chopra feels that spinner Ravichandran Ashwin cannot be relied on as a wicket-taking option in the shortest format as the bowler might fail sometimes. While lauding Ashwin for his performance post the T20 World Cup 2021, Chopra said that the off-spinner will play the role of defensive bowler to perfection but was skeptical about his performance when the team would be needing wickets from him. Ashwin made a return to the T20I format after eight months and has since taken three wickets in as many games.

Shaheen Shah Afridi fitness and World Cup key as Pakistan tackle Netherlands

The 22-year-old paceman suffered a knee injury on the recent tour of Sri Lanka, a worrying setback with the Asia Cup -- and a meeting with old rivals India -- coming up at the end of the month. Pakistan team bosses do not want to overload a fast bowler who has already played 97 times across all three formats since his international debut just four years ago. "We're taking a couple of doctors with us to take care of Shaheen and want him to play a game against Netherlands to see if he's fit and ready for the Asia Cup," said Pakistan skipper Babar Azam.
