Robin Uthappa Feels These Two Pacers Will Vie For A Spot In India's Playing XI In T20 World Cup

The BCCI announced the replacement for injured pacer Jasprit Bumrah for 2022 T20 World Cup on Friday. It will be Mohammed Shami who will fill the vacant spot and that will help the Indian side to continue having four full-time fast bowlers in the 15-member squad. Former India batter Robin Uthappa feels that Shami and Arshdeep Singh are certain to get a spot in the playing XI and it will be a toss-up between Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel, in case India decide to play with three pure pacers.

Young India pacer Arshdeep Singh has really grown in confidence as a pacer over the last few months. Rewarded for his consistent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Punjab Kings, Arshdeep has become a starter for India in the shortest format. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep is being seen as the go-to bowler by the Indian team in the death overs. Still a few days away from the start of the T20 World Cup 2022, Arshdeep and the rest of the members of the Indian team are in Australia, trying to get an understanding of conditions Down Under with practice games.

The trouble though is that though Jadeja's absence can be masked (especially if someone like Axar Patel, who is a like-for-like replacement for Jadeja performs well), there is no one who can be a like-for-like replacement for Bumrah. This was a sentiment that was echoed by former Australian cricketer Shane Watson as well. "If you ask me a possible like-for-like replacement for Bumrah, there is none. There's no one really in the world. He is just that incredibly skillful. Whether it's with a brand-new ball, whether it's in the death overs, he's got amazing skill. And that's the reason he's done such an incredible job for India as well. So, there's no like for like replacement (possible)," Watson told TimesofIndia.com in an interview.

With the series already in the bag, the 3rd T20I against South Africa offers the Indian team an opportunity to test some of their reserves. The likes of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli were already expected to give the match in Indore a miss but Arshdeep Singh's absence came as a surprise.

India clinched yet another series at home after beating South Africa by 16 runs in the second T20I at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The hosts took an unassailble 2-0 lead in the series, with the final game scheduled to take place on Tuesday. After posting a total of 237 for three in 20 overs, India held their nerves to seal their first white-ball series win over the Proteas, despite David Miller's unbeaten century. South Africa's top-order continued to struggle as captain Temba Bavuma and Rilee Rossouw were both dismissed on ducks.

He played for India at the Asia Cup in last month, but didn't have the best of outings. However, the young pacer made a strong comeback in the first T20I against South Africa earlier this week.
