England will face West Indies in the first Test in Antigua with Joe Root as captain
After a disastrous Ashes that caused plenty of navel-gazing at the ECB, England head to the Caribbean to try and repair their tattered Test reputation in a three-match series against West Indies.
Top sportsmen are always on trial but it is difficult to recall so many players in one team being under such minute scrutiny as Joe Root’s England when they take on the West Indies in Antigua today.
Ravichandran Ashwin has condoled the demise of Shane Warne, saying the Australian brought spin as an attacking commodity to this cricketing world. Warne passed away on Friday aged 52 due to a suspected heart attack. "I see Warne as a flag-bearer for carrying the spin aspect of bowling on the front in the world cricketing map. The top three wicket-takers in the world are spinners in Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble. He was an interesting character. So many Australian legends had so many nice things to say about him. I still can't accept the fact that life is so fickle. We cannot predict what can happen," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Former England batter Andrew Strauss may not have too many fond memories of his duels with Australian cricket great Shane Warne on the cricket pitch. Warne, who recently died of a suspected heart attack in Thailand, had some memorable duels with Strauss during the 2005 Ashes series when England ended their dry spell in the series with a 2-1 victory over the course of the five matches. In the thrilling second Test held at Edgbaston, Warne picked 10 wickets but couldn't help prevent Australia from losing by two runs.
Australia Test captain Pat Cummins says Shane Warne was a «once-in-a-century cricketer» as he led the tributes to the iconic leg-spinner who died on Friday aged 52.
Rod Marsh, who has died in hospital in Adelaide aged 74 following a heart attack last week, did not simply represent Australia in cricket but also in the public imagination. He was the archetypal Australian, stocky, gruff, rough, and tough on initial acquaintance, but he played fair and was ready to have a beer with anyone after a day’s play.
