McLaren say their priority is to win the Formula One constructors' title after Lando Norris's challenge for the drivers' crown was all but ended in Brazil at the weekend.
Max Verstappen drove Lando Norris to the brink of world championship defeat – and then turned on the McLaren star’s alleged backers in the British media.
McLaren have told Lando Norris he has no need to change the way he drives in the Formula One title battle with Red Bull's Max Verstappen, according to team boss Andrea Stella.
McLaren team chief Andrea Stella blasted as "inappropriate" a controversial penalty handed to Lando Norris at the United States Grand Prix which could shatter his world title dream. Race stewards penalised Norris and relegated him to fourth behind three-time world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull after the pair clashed and ran off-track in the closing laps. A five-second penalty given to Norris, who finished third on track at the flag, pushed him back to fourth behind the series leader and dealt a blow in his bid to catch and pass the Dutch driver in this year's title race.
AUSTIN, Texas : McLaren's Andrea Stella criticized Formula One stewards on Sunday for what he said was an "inappropriate" U.S. Grand Prix penalty that seriously dented Lando Norris's title hopes.
BAKU : Oscar Piastri hailed his Azerbaijan Grand Prix victory as the best yet after soaking up relentless pressure from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to put McLaren top of the Formula One standings.
BAKU : Oscar Piastri can fight for victory without fear of McLaren team orders in Sunday's Azerbaijan Grand Prix after qualifying on the front row, with Formula One title contender Lando Norris far behind in 17th.
McLaren are poised to introduce team orders to support Lando Norris's bid to beat Max Verstappen to the drivers' world title in this weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Widespread reports following a BBC interview published on Thursday in which McLaren team boss Andrea Stella said the team would "bias our support to Lando" made clear they were abandoning a policy of non-interference. "The overall concept is we are incredibly determined to win, but we want to win in the right way," Stella said.
