SYDNEY :All-rounder Beau Webster will make his test debut for Australia in place of the dropped Mitchell Marsh in the fifth test against India on Friday, captain Pat Cummins said on Thursday.
Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey on Wednesday reflected on India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal's controversial dismissal on Day 05 at the Melbourne Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and said that the third umpire took the right decision. Australia clinched an 184-run victory over India at the Melbourne Test and took a 2-1 lead in the series, also ending India's chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord's early next year. The decision by the third umpire Sharfuddoula on Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal on the final day of the fourth Test of the BGT series has left the world of cricket divided.
Ahead of the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between Australia and India, wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey heaped praise on his teammates and batters Travis Head, Steven Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne following their contribution in the ongoing series. Australia clinched an 184-run victory over India in the Melbourne Test and took a 2-1 lead in the series, also ending India's chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord's early next year. Currently, Australia lead 2-1 over India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey believes pace spearhead Mitchell Starc will "push through" the pain of a rib injury to play the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series here beginning on Friday. The 34-year-old left-hand quick's fitness remains the primary worry for the hosts after he battled through sore ribs from day three of the Boxing Day Test but still managed to bowl effectively with help from the team's physios. "He'll be fine. He will push through," Carey told the media on Wednesday.
Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey has backed Mitchell Starc to be ready for the decisive fifth and final test of the series against India when it starts in Sydney on Friday despite doubts over the fast bowler's fitness.
India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal had an heated exchange with Australia debutant Sam Konstas on Day 5 of their just-concluded 4th Test in Melbourne on Monday. The incident happened during the post-Lunch session with Rishabh Pant batting alongside Jaiswal. Konstas, who was deployed at silly point, was heard sledging Jaiswal. While it was not clear what Konstas might have said to Jaiswal, the Indian batter was clearly not happy with the teenager. As a result, Jaiswal shouted at Konstas, saying "do your job".
BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla on Monday slammed third umpire Saikat Sharfuddoula for Yashasvi Jaiswal's contentious dismissal on the final day of the Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne, saying the India opener was "clearly not out". Jaiswal was batting on 84 when Australia skipper Pat Cummins' down-the-leg snorter cramped him for room while attempting a hook, and the home side went up instantaneously in appeal for a caught behind as Alex Carey completed a tumbling take.
